3 Things People Get Wrong about Costa Rica
Claire and I have spent a lot of time in Costa Rica… and we get asked a LOT of questions too. Here are the biggest misconceptions people have about visiting Costa Rica...
Not All Beaches Are Created Equal
You need to be an adventure junkie to enjoy Costa Rica.
False! Sure, there’s world-class surfing, zip-lining, and volcano hikes, but Costa Rica also offers some of the most luxurious resorts, peaceful beaches, and wellness retreats you’ll find anywhere. You can make your trip as chill or as adventurous as you want.
The beaches are all the same.
LOL! Costa Rica has two very different coasts — the Pacific and the Caribbean — and each has its own personality.
Even if you only consider the Pacific coast, since it's easier to get to, you’ll find everything from white-sand luxury resorts (Playa Conchal) to rugged, jungle-backed hideaways (Playa Ventanas). No two beaches feel alike.
It’s always rainy and buggy.
Nope. While Costa Rica does have a rainy season, the dry season (Dec–April) is sunny and stunning, especially in Guanacaste.
Also, what tourism calls "the rainy season," Costa Ricans refer to as “green season,” because it is so gorgeous and lush (perspective shift!). Mornings are usually beautiful before afternoon showers roll in around 2.
And yes, there are bugs, because Costa Rica is located on earth (and it’s the tropics!) — but you have bugs at your house too (assuming you live on earth), and with a little prep, it’s really no big deal. For more content like this, you can subscribe to our newsletter. Have a great trip!
